The Funeral Service for Lissa Frances Crocker Prevatt
Our sweet Lissa Frances Crocker Prevatt leapt into the arms of the Lord August 3, 2025, and was reunited with the souls of loved ones along her journey. Though Lissa lived in various places across the country over her lifetime, Monticello, Georgia, was always home to her. She was a member of Monticello Baptist Church and loved attending Larry Lynch’s Sunday school class until illness intervened.
Lissa was born November 10, 1960, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Louise Massey Crocker and the late Reverend Alvin Dean Crocker. She attended elementary and secondary school in Monticello then graduated a year early from Monticello High School (JCCHS). Lissa later earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Georgia then a master’s degree in education from Georgia College. She excelled in college all while raising a family and taking care of her home. Lissa went on to share her love of learning as a creative, charismatic teacher in Macon and Covington, both in Georgia.
Lissa was a strong yet compassionate person who always gave her all. She never missed watching a University of Georgia Bulldogs game and would yell commentaries at the screen when she saw fit. Her appreciation for all genres of music…rap, hip-hop, classical, classic rock, etc… exemplified how she lived her life with unconditional acceptance and open mindedness; and she played piano beautifully. As was her birth right, she carried on the family tradition of “grammar police” regardless of being asked to or not. However, Lissa’s greatest emotion was expressed through her skill and love of crocheting. She masterfully stitched love, passion, and kindness into every chain, slip stitch, single or double stitch she created; and she worked through every knot and tangle of the yarn with grace and patience as she did the trials she encountered in life.
Lissa was blessed for twenty-five years to be married to Benjamin Ernest “Ben” Prevatt. He was a supportive and adoring husband who was her first love, best friend, and childhood sweetheart. No two people belonged together more than they.
Lissa was preceded on her Heavenly journey by her precious daughter Jamie Jackson; her father The Reverend Dean Crocker; sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Marvin Roper; brother-in-law Frank Byrdic; paternal grandparents L.F. and Carrie Crocker; maternal grandparents Frank and Jessie Massey; her in-laws, James and Vida Prevatt; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
In addition to her husband, Ben, Lissa is survived by her mama, Louise Massey Crocker of Rock Hill, South Carolina; daughters Ginny Jackson of Covington, Misty Jackson of Athens, and Myra Prevatt of Savannah; a brother Ken (Charlene) Crocker of Rock Hill, South Carolina; a sister Mary K. Crocker Byrdic of Rock Hill, South Carolina; a sister-in-law Alice (Alvin) Sudduth; a brother-in-law Jim (Murial) Prevatt; grandchildren, Jami “JJ” Lynn, Nena Ruff, and Bacari Foster; as well as many nieces and nephews.
It is by God’s grace that He sent caring angels to help the family during Lissa’s devastating illness: Faye Smith, Lissa’s caregiver and friend; and Longleaf Hospice, especially Nurse Jawanna Davis and Nurse Courtney Standard. God bless you for the comfort and strength you shared that were so desperately needed!
Saturday, August 16, 2025, the family will receive friends at 10 a.m. at the Monticello Baptist Church with a Celebration of Life service following at 11 a.m. at the church. The Reverend David Artessa is officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lissa’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
Jordan’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
